Celebrate the Small Things: 8/2

No, that's not what I meant at all.
Delete, delete, delete...edit, edit, edit.
That's better, but still not quite right.
Delete, delete, delete...edit, edit, edit.
OK!
Oops, a typo.
Delete...edit.
Done!
Now, on to my next Facebook comment.

And I wonder why my WIP isn't getting done faster...

This week I'm celebrating:

1)  My content editor approved the changes and my novel, Soul Cutter, is off to the line-editor.
2) Despite being distracted by FB, I managed to finish the first chapter in my WIP.
3) I finally got over an awful cold, but that takes away my last excuse for not working harder ... darn it ...

Do you spend too much time on social media and wonder why your WIP isn't done yet -- or is it just me?

This post is part of VikLit's blog hop, Celebrate the Small Things. To be part of this blog hop, all you have to do is follow the link and put your name on the Mr.Linky list, and then be sure to post every Friday about something you're grateful  for that week.  It can be about writing or family or school or general life.  This is the funnest and easiest blog hop ever!

I don't do Facebook but I probably spend too much time procrastinating on blogs etc! That finished book is getting ever nearer.

Yep... Guilty as charged. I always think I'll just pop quickly into Twitter to see what's going on, only to find a million articles I want to read etc linked to. And there goes a good half hour....

I've never gotten addicted to Facebook, but Twitter definitely sucks me in. I've forced myself to not be on it as much lately so I could get more art done!

BTW, congrats on finishing the first chapter of your WIP! Good luck with all the other chapters that'll follow. :)

First round of edits done - that's great! And yes, a little too much blogging, but then again, I'm not writing at the moment anyway.

Congrats on making it past the content edits.

When I'm working, I stay offline. I have to. I even work in one spot and play on my social media sites in another so I'm conditioned to know when it's time to get down to business. :)

I'm not sure what WIP is, but blogging is what makes down time in the store bearable - so no :)

It sounds like you are getting it done despite the interruptions of social media. Congratulations!

Yes, I suffer from too much blogging (and a busy daughter) and too little writing. Congrats on getting work done. And glad you're feeling better.

Why yes, yes I do spend too much time on social media. I would have been done with my current WIP a year ago if it weren't for all of you fascinating fun people who keep distracting me!

And congrats on the edits!

It's not just you. I'm trying to do something about my addiction, but I like all the cool people I meet. Like you :)

And congrats on moving on to the line editor!

Happy Weekend, too :)

Looks like even though distractions are stalking you, you are still getting good work done :)

Funny how we're supposed to spend all this time on social media to promote ourselves but when are we supposed to write? Or work - if we have a day job? I recently finished my first round of edits, too :)

Social media can be distracting. But everything will be ok after sometime, it is only a passing phase !

Number two made me smile. Well done, girlie.

Yep! Waaaaay too much time, but I'm starting to cut back because I'm on a project that I'm determined to finish before the end of the year. Fingers crossed and spit over one shoulder. That always works.

Be sure to stop by and pick up a little something I've left for you.

Woo hoo! Glad your edits were accepted and you're feeling better.

And yes, I have been known to spend a bit too much time on the internet when I should be working. Five minute breaks have a tendency to turn into half an hour or more....

Have a good weekend! :)

Congrats on making it past the content editor and on to the line editor. Yeah!

I definitely get distracted by fb, my phone, game apps, lots of things. I try not to let myself start looking when I have a lot to do because I might not be back for a while!

Well done on dealing with the content editor. Now, delete, edit, delete, delete, correct typo, that's done.

I used to be over-committed to Facebook, but I have amended my ways, and no longer allow it to interfere with LIP (life in progress).

I have a love hate relationship with Facebook, but have recently become addicted to YouTube - my excuse is that it gives me lots of ideas though. ;-)
Glad you're feeling better. :-)

Congrats on getting your manuscript to the line editor and finishing chp 1...:) I also get distracted by social media way too easily... it's all the colorful, sparkling pretty photos:)

Ah ha ha ha I laughed when I got to the facebook line, because it's so TRUE!

You're on Facebook and completed chapter 1 of the WIP? Sounds like you've found the secret to managing your writing and social media. Wanna share?

Hahahaha sometimes, yeah. I'm trying to focus more, though. If I don't, I'll never get everything I need to done.

That's cool that content edits are finished, and it's onto line edits! hooray!

As for social media, I fear I would spend lots of time there, which is one excuse I use not to have any social media accounts whatsoever. Though really it's in protest to the demise of the rotary dial phone, eight track players and Beta video tapes. Anyone want to join my protest for solidarity's sake?

Apparently, I'm not typical for my demographic. Though, to be honest, it's my life's secret work to be that one outlying data point that skews all others. Yep, that's my mantra, "Skew everything."

Glad you're over your cold. Now, get back to work! lol.

I spend almost no time on social medial - except the blogs. But I do have a couple of downloaded games that distract me when I have a few moments to write. And yeah, my inner editor ruins a lot of effective writing moments.

Ha, that's exactly how I write my blog posts! Lots of writing, editing, deleting and swearing :D

btw, I definitely spend way too much time on Social Networks, but I can't help it. It's fun :)

social media and blogging can be so time consuming

Shah Wharton said...

Lol! You do make me giggle. I waste an inordinate amount of time blogging, clearing emails, research, which leads to research, which eats away hours on stuff I think I need but know I'll forget, and then there's the editing, re-editing, re-writing. *Groan! I don't have editors waiting in line to help me with my crap (I'm jealous, I know I am!) so that cycle seems to never end.

Go, go, go Lexa. :D

One step closer to publication. Looking forward to reading your book.
LOL on the other. Yes, I spend way too much time on Face Book and other social places. I think they're addictive. My latest plans are to not go there until I've worked on my stories. We'll see how that works out.

Julie Flanders said...

LOL so glad I'm not the only one who puts so much effort into FB comments. :D Congrats on Soul Cutter being one step closer - I can't wait to read it. :)

I totally understand being distracted by FB happens to me all the time. Though Twitter is the huge time waster in my life!

Gina Gao said...

Facebook is such a time waster for me. I am ashamed to admit that I spend 4-5 hours of FB per day.

I'm spending too much time on Instagram, but I manage to get things done. When I get back to the day job soon, I know that social media time has to be cut in half.

David T List said...

It's definitely NOT just you that plays on social media! (he says, while perusing blogs)

But I've noticed that once I'm able to get going, I start to actually miss writing if I even skip a single day.

Stoked for your editor approved changes! That's got to be one of my biggest hesitations as far as publishing.

Social media? What's that? Hah! Yep, I spend WAY too much time playing online. Blogs, facebook, twitter. Don't even get me started :) Really wish I were better at prioritizing my novel!
